La mano poderosa, se sitúa entre la Sierra del Puuc al norte y la Escarpada de Bolonchén al sur, ésta última imprime al sitio una ondulada topografía. Kabah abarca cerca de 4km2 de fértiles tierras agrícolas salpicadas de templos, palacios y unidades habitacionales, los que fueron edificados, en su mayor parte, entre los años 700 y 1000 N.E. (Período Clásico Terminal).
Una Calzada o Sacbé de aproximadamente 20 km de largo une a Kabah con las ciudades de Nohpat y Uxmal. Frente al eje norte-sur formado por el Sacbé, se aprecia un eje este-oeste constituido por la disposición de los tres grupos principales: el Grupo Este, el Grupo Central y el Grupo Oeste.
